![]() ![]() Shampoo is not a scam if your hair is longer than a few inches, it really is advisable to use a slightly acidic solution on your hair and hand soap isn't going to get you there. Long hair shouldn't be washed with an alkaline solution if you want it to stay manageable and alkaline is definitely what soaps are. Once a year in the fall I partially dredge out the greywater system and ad it to a larger compost pile for yard waste and it's great stuff.Īnyhow, you can use that soap for anything except making shaving lather and washing your hair. By keeping the soap content low, it leaves the greywater system at a more attractive Ph for microorganisms to flourish and do their work of breaking down the oil and soap residues in the dishwater. That system is just a cement-lined hole in the ground with a layer of soil on the bottom. In our case, we divert our kitchen sink water into a greywater system right outside the kitchen window. There's a really good reason for doing this that goes way beyond saving a few bucks a year on soap. We have a dishwasher and never use it because it's easier just to do them by hand. But if you want them to sparkle just hit them with a dry cloth. With the dishes the trick, as mentioned before is to compost the big stuff and then pre-rinse the dishes with hot water to get off all the visible food first and then finally to soak them in plain hot water for a few minutes and then finally hit them with a thin layer of soap just to get off the remaining grease. That stuff works great both for the laundry and for the dishes. Generally you can refill a jug with a single bar four or five times meaning you get gallons of soaftsoap out of a single bar. Stir it up when it's hot and then when it cools the whole jug turns into a tub of softsoap in varying consistencies depending upon how old the soap bar is and how much water was added. The harder the soap is the longer you may need to microwave it but the result is impressive. Take a bar of soap with a decent amount of glycerin in it and put it in a cut off plastic HDPE milk container and stick it in the microwave for several minutes. ![]() ![]() Yeah, this was going to be my comment -don't buy softsoap, it's just bar soap with water added. ![]()
